About us

ORTHODONTICS:

Dr. Bowbeer has specialized in functional orthodontics for children and adults for over 30 years. With the use of functional and orthopedic appliances we are able to correct most orthodontic problems without the removal of any permanent teeth except third molars. If the orthodontic problem is severe, it is best when treatment is started early.

No doubt, your dentist has discussed with you the benefits of having healthy teeth and proper jaw alignment. Crooked and crowded teeth are hard to clean and maintain. Orthodontic treatment can provide a lifetime of benefits to your health by making it less likely that you will have tooth decay, gum disease, and possible tooth loss. It can also improve appearance by creating a beautiful smile providing greater self-confidence and self-respect. Other orthodontic problems can contribute to abnormal wear of tooth surfaces, i.e. chipping and breakage of teeth, discomfort and inefficient chewing function, stress on gum tissue and the bone that supports the teeth, or misalignment of the jaw joints (TMD) which can lead to chronic headaches, fatigue, and face or neck pain. Treatment by an orthodontist is usually less costly than the additional care required to treat dental problems arising as a result of long term orthodontic problems.

TMD (Temporo Mandibular Dysfunction):

Dr. Bowbeer has been providing TMD therapy for the past 25 years. His approach to TMD therapy is non-invasive, starting with a mandibular bite splint worn full time to provide the patient relief of their TMD symptoms. The key is to place the condyles in the proper position to allow healing. The TMJ splint's function is similar to that of a cast set to heal a broken leg. Patients are not prescribed any pain medications. Many patients report major relief of their 10-20 year symptoms in as little as 2-3 days, even those patients who have been wearing splints provided by other dental providers.

The following symptoms in various combinations and intensities may indicate TMD.

Frequent headaches in the temples, behind the eyes, in the back of the head, and "like a band around the head"

migraine headaches

sinus headaches

popping jaw joints when eating or yawning

stiff neck & shoulders

tingly fingers; low back pain

frequent dizzy spells

lightheadedness

If you have consulted or been treated by your dentist, your family physician, or other related medical specialists but have not had relief for your symptoms an examination by Dr Bowbeer, and treatment if needed, may be beneficial.

TMD evaluation by Dr Bowbeer will determine if the signs and symptoms are due to TMJ dysfunction. If so, his treatment is usually very effective within 6 weeks to 3 months.

Dr. Bowbeer is a member of the International Association of  Orthodontics (IAO). He is a contributing editor for their journal, The Functional Orthodontist and has written 14 articles on treatment based on facial esthetics and proper TMJ function (Click on link below).
